Landscaping Must-dos

To maximize every minute of your outdoor enjoyment—whether it’s lush landscaping, an enviable emerald-green lawn, mulch, a patio, an outdoor kitchen, a pavilion or outdoor furniture—the friendly folks at Peters Professional Landscaping offer unmatched expertise and a broad selection.

“Each year our landscaping and outdoor patios grow bigger and more elaborate,” says Chris Peters, who founded the family run operation in 1992.

“People love spending their recreational time outdoors, whether it’s for large-scale entertaining or just hanging out with family.”

Take a drive by Peters Professional Landscaping to check out the gorgeous display of new Amish-made outdoor furniture, Backyard Furnishings.

The sophisticated and ultra-durable styles come in 42 colors that can be mixed and matched, including natural wood shades, and range from chairs, rockers and gliders, to swings, accent tables and dining tables.

Made from 97 percent recycled materials and stainless steel, you can leave this furniture outside year-round. You don’t even have to bother covering it.

For added comfort, coordinating weatherproof cushions come in a variety of designer fabrics, including daring stripes and bold geometric prints.

Bringing the Indoors Out
“Our patio designs are becoming more like living rooms, including bars and outdoor televisions,” says General Manager Josh Riley. “With outdoor kitchens that include cooking, eating and serving areas, as well as a refrigerator, you almost don’t need to bother going indoors to prepare a meal.”

For added shelter and architectural appeal, Peters offers Amish-crafted Weaver sheds and barns. Several of them are showcased on the lot, from simple garden sheds to barns, and people can customize their structure, adding doors, windows, window boxes, cupolas, lofts, etc.

Lush Lawns
“We can troubleshoot issues and bring out your lawn’s best, whether it’s diagnosing and treating grubs, or applying special shade seed to grow grass in shaded areas,” says Chris.

With landscape design consultations, each job is unique. Chris or Josh will sit down with clients and discuss their likes and dislikes, then customize each job.

“Our goal is to orchestrate an eye-appealing grouping of flowers and plants that will produce a continuous bloom from spring to fall, blending the most vibrant colors, with varying heights and textures,” says Josh.

Is Your Yard Ready for Summer?
Josh reports there’s a short list of activities homeowners should be doing this month.

“Number one is mulch,” he says. “The spring blossoms have dropped, so now is the perfect time to lay your mulch. Using a complementary color can really make your landscaping and home shine. Why strain your back laying it yourself? Our crews can deliver and lay it professionally in a day. And with bulk-rate pricing, we save you in the long run over bags.”

June is also the perfect time to plant seeds and shrubs so they will flourish by mid-summer.

“And now that shrubs and trees have gone through their initial growth cycle, I recommend trimming,” he says. “This is really a job that’s best left to trained professionals. There are many factors we consider to shape a tree and keep it growing optimally for years to come.”

Josh mentions lawn edging is an element that’s often overlooked. “Nothing sets off a pristine lawn like perfectly edged sidewalks, driveways and beds,” he says. “Edging also keeps the grass from growing into the beds, and gives your mulch a nice framework to settle in.”

Lastly, he advises you don’t let the weeds go. “Even a quick weeding of your beds when they first emerge will save you loads of time in the end, as they spread so quickly,” he adds.

Hydro-Seeding
When new technology comes onto the market, Josh says they are eager to introduce it to the area. For instance, when installing new lawns, they are one of the few operations in the area to offer hydro-seeding.

“Using a truck, we spray dirt with a seed and fertilizer mix that’s dyed green,” he says. “The method provides a lusher lawn in less time, about two weeks.”

And with the slew of graduation and Fourth of July parties coming, whether it’s a simple mulch delivery, landscape job or new paver patio, there’s still time to get on their schedule.

“To keep up with our growing number of clients, we’ve doubled the equipment and manpower compared to this time last year,” says Chris.
